LaseAYC – Automated Yard Cranes for an intermodal terminal in North America
13.08.2024
LASE has won a contract to supply six LaseAYC - Automatic Yard Crane systems to a North American end-customer.LaseAYC-2 - Automatic Yard Crane is used at container terminal operation, with fully automatic container handling in ASC storage yards. In addition to the control cabinet, IPC and application software, the 3D measurement system consists of two 3D laser scanners. Both 3D scanners are installed at a specified distance from each other under the trolley of an automatic stacking crane. The system's scan data enables exact three-dimensional position measurements of containers in the stack, on truck trailers, wagons, or AGVs. The LaseAYC-2 system is used to automate container handling and optimize the operation of aRTG's, aRMG's and ASC container yards.
The 3D position measurement detects the four corners of the container via the long upper sides of the containers and thus the position of the corner castings. This enables high-precision pick-up and set-down tasks to be performed during stacking crane operation. The basic function of the LaseAYC-2 measuring system includes automatic container handling, i.e. picking up and setting down containers in the container stack. Its function can be extended to include picking up and setting down containers from trucks or wagons. In addition to the stacking functions, the system also serves as a collision prevention system, preventing collisions of containers on the spreader with containers in the stack. Furthermore, the system prevents hard drops of containers, which reduces noise, wear and tear, and maintenance.
