LaseCAU-ML (Collision Avoidance for (Un)loaders with Multi-Layer Scanner) is an advanced sensor-based safety system developed to prevent collisions between vertical crane beams and vessel hatch covers during bulk cargo loading & unloading.
The system was specially developed for ship unloaders and loaders with vertical beams that work in continuous processes. It uses four high-resolution 3D multi-layer laser scanners to monitor the working area around the beam. It reliably detects hatch edges and covers, including folded and sliding hatch types and dynamically calculates clearances in real time.
The system enables early intervention by triggering alarms, controlled slow-downs, or emergency stops when a risk of collision is detected. Adjustable parameters allow operators to define safety thresholds, while built-in diagnostics ensure maximum availability and safety, even under challenging environmental conditions.
LaseCAU-ML significantly enhances operational safety, reduces equipment damage, and minimizes costly downtime, making it a vital component for ports handling bulk carriers with varying hatch configurations.
